DSICO’s EP launch

Heads up to DSICO [That no Talent Hack] and Sean from 12 Apostles for the night of electo-poppy-tech fun at the Hollywood Hotel. And damn is this an artsy industry bar if I even seen one. TV actors, electronic musicians and so many boys in khaki “revolutionary” jackets and girls in severe haircuts!

More Big Day Out news

Glorious glorious day! Muse and Kings of Leon are coming out. The Masters of Melodrama and the Kings of the Land of Shaggy Haircuts will be in the country for Big Day Out.

I recently bought KOL debut album and it’s a ripper (despite NME’s gushing “they’re what The Strokes were to 2001″, how many ‘albums of the year’ can this mag have?).

In fact I’ve been on a bit of a shopping spree what with Dirt Cheap (on Pitt St) offering $17 new releases and HMV currently having an under $20 sale. Phew!

Getting to sleep

Damn I hate not being able to sleep! Especially when you know you have to be all fresh as a daisy tomorrow so you start pressuring yourself “go to sleep already!” which just makes the whole thing worse. And this happens to me a fair bit considering I’ll stay up to ridiculous hours on the weekend and then need to get back into the normal routine come Monday/Tuesday.

I’ve heard all sorts of tricks to getting to sleep. I’ve got a friend who counts back from 100 and swears she never even gets to 60. (I tried it, but by 49 I was bored and had started fantasizing about running off with a Calvin Klein model and becoming a female MC touring with The Herd).

Another friend tells me her dad imagines painting a wall with a toothpick while another friend tells me I should write down all the things that I would worry about on a piece of paper to put it out of mind. None of these work, and I now know its all up to the individual – because I’ve discovered what works for me!

OK, when I go to sleep naturally what happens is my normal thoughts fade into bizarre thoughts, and often a quiet whisper in my head says “OK, these thought aren’t normal, I must be drifting off into dreaming”. Very occasionally a thought like that might wake me up – but usually not and I’ll go to sleep.

So what I’ve started doing is “fake” my dreaming. I’ve started purposefully, intentionally imagining weird things: flying on winged horses, talking to some who suddenly changes shape, being someone else – you know, standard dream stuff. And before you know it, I’m doing some “real” dreaming…

Dreamtime

I had a dream I was at this really dodgy table outdoors eating Vietnamese food with Dave from Dappled Cities Fly. Except he looked really different to what he looks like. And I was wearing my brother’s jumper from when he was in 3rd grade.

Strange. (But then when are dreams not?)

The Summer ahead

Goodness I’m going to be broke by the end of the summer. I mean check out all the dance acts and events happening (ITM Whatson) not to mention acts like Buck 65, The Shins, Super Furry Animals, Radio Birdman, McClusky and Turin Brakes coming out.

Good lord – I’m going to have to sell a limb or two to cover this!
